As a professional basketball player in Europe, older brother Mitch McMullen fell in love with the rich-bodied coffees and espresso there. It was Mitch who decided to bring the richness of European coffees to his Newhall, Calif. coffeehouse, Mitch’s Java ’N Jazz. The success of Java ’N Jazz and its unique coffee blends prompted Kyle McMullen to open a second coffee establishment, Java ’N Jazz in neighboring Valencia. Discontented with the quality of coffee they were being provided, Mitch and Kyle decided to roast their own beans. Though they initially only intended to roast premium coffee for their own use at Java ’N Jazz, Mitch and Kyle soon yielded to local demand clamoring for Newhall Coffee Roasting Company coffees.
