MCMULLEN BROTHER WINS LEUKEMIA’S MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD

Newhall, CA (November 23, 2002) Mitch McMullen, co-founder of the Newhall Coffee Roasting Company of Newhall, won the 2002 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Los Angeles Man of the Year competition. The announcement came at the organization's annual dinner on Saturday, November 23. McMullen won the honor as a result of his fundraising efforts, along with his brother Kyle, for The Corey McMullen Leukemia Fund.

In his tear filled speech, Mitch McMullen remembered being there in the hospital room when his older brother took his last breath as a result of a 3 year battle with Leukemia. "Corey was the starting basketball center for Arizona State University... strong and valiant when he was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 21.""Corey can no longer influence anything in this world but, his two younger brothers, Kyle and I, can honor him, our mentor, our champion, by donating money through The Corey McMullen Leukemia Fund, and perhaps save a life in his memory." He went on to say, "Fifteen years ago the
options were few, now, sometimes a pill can help... The advances in medicine are encouraging, and money is needed to continue the advance!"

"I want to thank everyone who drinks our coffee, because just by drinking our coffee, you are helping to save lives," said Mitch after the announcement. Brother Kyle said "This honor reflects the commitment Newhall Coffee has to this extremely important cause; to see the devastating results this disease has on children and adults alike is humbling, and in a very small way, we feel good about what we are doing."
